Ada: Scenes From a Small West Michigan Town in Early November

Many people mourn the end of summer — especially those who live in colder parts of the country — but I’ve been convinced for a long time that autumn is the best season of the year, and there’s nothing you could say to me that would make me believe otherwise. Fall means football, the leaves putting on their color-changing parade, and the start of the holiday season.

I also view fall as a very inspirational time of year for artists and creators of all stripes. Whether you’re a painter, a writer, a musician, or whatever else, there’s something special about autumn that gets the creative juices flowing.

That’s exactly what happened when I visited Ada, a village just to the east of Grand Rapids, on a Sunday in early November. I had planned on simply taking photos of the village’s covered bridge, but a flurry of snow blew through at exactly the right time, and I was inspired to do a little more. The result was this short video. It’s not a visual masterpiece or anything, but who knows — maybe it’ll give you that little nudge you need to find your own autumn inspiration.
